Ferro Alloy is a man made raw material that is essentially an “alloy” or mixture of various metals such as iron, chromium, aluminum or manganese and non-metallic chemical elements such as silicon, carbon along with other minerals.
Ferro Alloy is primarily used as an additive for manufacturing steel and iron products. Ferro Alloys serve the purpose of achieving significant qualities such as metallic bonding, hardness and strength modification, anti-corrosiveness, ductility, tensile strength or heat resistance, also for deoxidization and removing unwanted impurities like sulphur or phosphorus from the steel component.
The varying requirements of such qualities are achieved with different proportions of the materials forming the alloy, which further classifies the type of Ferro Alloy. The most common types include:
